Pat Dorsey’s Stream Report – Elevenmile Canyon – South Platte

Elevenmile Canyon is known for its superb dry fly fishing. The Trico hatch is one of many that anglers should concentrate their efforts on.

Current Conditions

Clarity: Exellent

Water Temperature: High 40’s

Hatches: Midges, blue-winged olives, and Tricos

14 Day Forecast: Look for hatches of midges, blue-winged olives, and Tricos

Tips and Other Information: Fishing has been good in Elevenmile Canyon. Anglers can expect to see hatches of midges in the a.m., followed Tricos mid day, then “olives” in the afternoon.  Its hard to go wrong with small Parachute BWO’s Adams, and Sparkle Duns right now for the surface feeders. Nymphing in-between hatches with Mercury Midges, Jujubaetis, Stalcup’s Baetis and chocolate Foam Wing Emergers is producing some nice fish as well. Crowds are light in comparison to the Dream Stream which makes this a good destination this time of year.

Effective Patterns:  #20-22 Sparkle Wing RS 2, #20-22 Mercury Pheasant Tail,  #20-22 Rainbow Warriors,  #20-24 Chocolate Foam Wing Emerger,  #20-22 Jujubaetis, #22 Stalcup’s Baetis, #20-22 Mercury Midge, #22-24 Mercury Flashback RS 2, #20-26 Parachute Adams, #16 Mathew’s Sparkle Dun (PMD)
