Pat Dorsey’s Fishing Report: Cheesman Canyon – South Platte

Cheesman Canyon is one of the best tailwaters in the country. There’s a common belief among “canyon regulars” that if you can catch fish on the South Platte River, you can fool fish anywhere in the world. There’s no substitution for good technique in Cheesman Canyon.

Current Conditions

Clarity: Excellent

14 Day Forecast:  Look for excellent flows and reliable hatches of midges, caddis, and PMD’s

Tips and Other Information: Cheesman Reservoir is currently full. Denver Water plans on matching inflow for their outflow, and will purposely not allow the lake to fill and spill. Currently anglers are experiencing reliable hatches of midges, caddis, and PMD’s. The water is stained a bit from recent flow increases and there is a lot of free-floating debris. Things should improve in the days to come, especially with increasing outflow.
