Pat Dorsey’s Fishing Report: Spinney Mountain – Charlie Meyers SWA

The Charlie Meyers State Wildlife Area (commonly called the Spinney Mountain Ranch or Dream Stream) is a classic meandering, meadow stream. Anglers have the opportunity to catch rainbows, cut-bows, cutthroats, and brown trout when they fish this fabled stretch of water.

Current Conditions

Clarity: Good

14 Day Forecast:Look for good hatches of midges, PMD’s, Yellow Sallies, and caddis.

Tips and Other Information: Anglers should prepare themselves for hatches of  Tricos, caddis, pale morning duns, and yellow sallies. It’s hard to go wrong with a San Juan Worm trailed by a Buckskin, Barr’s Graphic Caddis, Flashback Mercury Pheasant Tails or Barr PMD Emerger.  Overall, the fishing is fair at best at the Dream Stream. Anglers are finding  a few “good fish” but they are covering lots of water and working hard for their catch. Things should improve once the reservoir fills and river levels rise.

Effective Patterns: #14 Mayer’s Mini Leech, #10 Pine Squirrel Leech, #20-22 JujuBaetis, #18-22 Mercury Flashback Pheasant Tail, #18-20 Buckskin, #18 Hot Tail Flash Egg, #22-24 Top Secret Midge, #22-24 Black Beauty, #20 Mathew’s Sparkle Dun, #20-26 Parachute Adams, and #22 Matt’s Midge.
