Float Tube Class
Fly fishing stillwater (lakes) can be intimidating for many fly anglers. Traditionally, most of us learn to fly fish on rivers, but fishing lakes is a much different ballgame. Without the knowledge of how to fish lakes, you can feel like a fish out of water. Let us cut that learning curve down dramatically for you.
The Blue Quill Angler, partnered with Outcast Sporting Gear, now offers a Float Tube Class for anglers of any experience level — from beginner to advanced. Spearheaded by 2 veteran guides, Joe Shafer and Jerry Vigil, we can tailor this class to exactly what you’re looking for. The Float Tube Class was designed to specifically teach you how to effectively fish lakes here in Colorado out of a float tube. Fishing out of a float tube offers advantages that other stillwater anglers don’t have. You can get away from the crowds on the bank, while approaching the fish in a very stealthy manner (there’s no loud engine on a float tube). Not to mention that you have the ability to stay with the fish as they transition from shallow to deeper, cooler waters.
The goal of this course is to leave you confident in your ability to be successful while fishing out of a float tube on a lake. Furthermore, we max the class out at 4 people to ensure a great experience, and there will be 2 guides on the water with you. The class will cover: safety, gear, rigs, flies, methods, reading water, and fish behavior.
We run the Float Tube Class at a variety of locations, both public and private. Possible fishing spots include locations like Antero, Spinney, Eleven Mile, Tarryall Reservoir, Wellington Lake, and Hidden Valley Lake. The location that we originally select could possibly change based on conditions and what lake is fishing the best at the time, with the objective of providing you with the best experience possible.
