Ladies Day at The Blue Quill Angler!
Ladies Day at the Blue Quill Angler is back again! Join us on Sunday, June 9th for a fun afternoon celebrating women in fly fishing! This event is for women of all ages and all experience levels and is completely FREE for anyone that attends. There will be a complete wine tasting throughout the event, and Vivian’s Gourmet here in Evergreen is catering desserts for the event. We’re talking an assortment of different wines, mini cupcakes, lemon bar bites, brownie bites, and cookies!
In addition to the wine and dessert tasting, there will be an educational theme behind this event. We will have stations set up to teach rigging and knot tying, casting clinics and instructions, fly tying, wader/clothing fitting, and more! There will be a casting contest throughout the day, with the winner getting a FREE SaraBella fly rod! The Blue Quill will be donating items for a raffle giveaway, and there will be GREAT discounts available to anyone that shows up! There will be guides from the Blue Quill available to help you out with any questions you may have in setup/fishing strategies!
Organizations like Casting for Recovery, Colorado Women’s Flyfishers, Project Healing Waters, and SaraBella will all be here for the event as well!
Details for Ladies Day 2019

- Cost: Free for everyone!
Food: We are going to have desserts catered in from Vivian’s Gourmet in Evergreen. There will be plenty of FREE dessert for everyone! We will have Mini Cupcakes, Lemon Bars Bites, Brownie Bites, and Cookies!
Wine: We are going to have a wine tasting throughout the event. We will have several different types of wine, and the tasting is completely free! We will also have plenty of non-alcoholic beverages for attendees as well.
Rigging Station: This station will go over the different rigging methods in fly fishing, including nymph rigs, dry fly rigs, dry/dropper rigs, and streamer rigs. This will also include knot tying techniques for the perfection loop, surgeons knot, and an improved clinch knot.
Casting: We will have instructors here to teach how to properly cast a fly rod throughout the day, including April Archer from SaraBella Fishing. We will have a bunch of rods set up out back for you to use! We will be going over simple techniques for success with your cast, reach cast, and roll cast.
Casting Contest: We will have a casting contest set up throughout the day. We will have different targets set up, and contestants will get points for every target they hit. At the end of the day, the lady with the most points will win a free SaraBella rod!
Fly Tying Station: We will have a table set up teaching ladies how to tie flies. Jeff Lefebvre and other BQA guides will be tying up local favorites and showing simple tricks to make your tying much easier! No experience tying? No problem, this is a great place to learn more about it!
Raffle Giveaway: We will have a big raffle giveaway at the end of the event! The BQA is donating high ticket items that we are giving away. Everyone that shows up will have a chance to win – no purchase required!
Shop Discounts: The BQA will have big discounts throughout the day! These great deals are only available to those that show up – certain merchandise excluded. If you need anything for this summer, you do NOT want to miss this event!

Casting for Recovery
Founded in 1996, Casting for Recovery provides healing outdoor retreats for women with breast cancer, at no cost to the participants. Casting for Recovery retreats offer opportunities for women to find inspiration, discover renewed energy for life, and experience healing connections with other women and nature. The retreats are open to women with breast cancer of all ages, in all stages of treatment and recovery. For over 20 years, women from all walks of life have benefitted from Casting for Recovery’s inspiring program model.
Colorado Women Fly Fishers
Formed in 1997, Colorado Women Flyfishers is a non-profit women’s fly fishing club that encourages and supports women who fly fish, who enjoy the camaraderie of other women who delight in the sport of fly fishing, and to provide a forum for women fly fishers to meet. Colorado Women’s Flyfishers welcomes women fly fishers of all ability levels. The club seeks to offer a supportive environment in which each member can improve her fly fishing knowledge and skills and have fun in the process. The members are diverse, ranging from young singles to grandmothers, beginners to professionals, and those who can only fish once a year to those who fish several times a week!
Project Healing Waters
Project Healing Waters brings a high-quality, full-spectrum fly fishing program to an ever-expanding number of disabled active military service personnel across the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, in Military Hospitals and the Warrior Transition Command. Project Healing Waters began in 2005 serving wounded military service members at Walter Reed Army Medical Center returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since then, Project Healing Waters has expanded nationwide, establishing its highly successful program in Department of Defense hospitals, Warrior Transition Units, and Veterans Affairs Medical Centers and clinics. Project Healing Waters has become recognized as an innovative leader and model in the field of therapeutic outdoor recreation for the disabled, through its successful application of the sport of fly fishing as a rehabilitation tool.
