Our December trip (summer in Patagonia) is to target the famed dragon fly hatch. Hot, dry days with a little bit of wind, provide the ultimate dry fly experience. If the dragon flies are not flying (due to cold weather) you’ll fish streamers or pound fish up with large, beefy Chernobyl Ant-type dry flies. Plan on fishing both lakes and rivers during your stay at Rio Manso Lodge. The stillwater fishing is truly amazing. Trust me on this...the stillwater impoundments are among some of the best trout fisheries in the world!
When you visit Rio Manso Lodge, you will have the opportunity to fish a variety of fisheries including small streams, large rivers, and deep lakes where monster brown, hefty rainbow, and trophy brook trout swim. Rio Manso Lodge provides all the comforts of home. Each of the lodge’s 9 rooms face northwest with spectacular views of Lago Hess and the Andes Mountains. If the weather is clear, the mountains looks close enough to touch!
Famous for its unique blend of big fish and technical fishing, the smooth, glassy currents near the channels of Lago Hess provide a great dry fly challenge to any angler. Similar to a spring creek, large fish often cruise the banks making this area a must-fish for any Rio Manso angler! Even though these fish can be extremely selective, many Rio Manso guests consider this their favorite location because some of the largest fish in the watershed are fooled in this area.
One of the top stillwater impoundments is Lago Fonck. This four mile long stillwater offers big rainbows, browns and brook trout. Dragon flies, damsels, and caddisflies all hatch on the lake and trout cruise the lakeshore weed beds in search of a meal. This presents the perfect opportunity to fish with big dry flies or a streamer to fool these monsters. You’ll fish the edges from a Carolina skiff, working the structure where rainbow, brook, and the occasional brown reside.
Join Pat & Kim and stay at the scenic Rio Manso Lodge nestled in the Andes mountains of Argentina. Lodging, freshly made meals and beverages including alcohol are included. You'll also have laundry services and the internet. Massage services are available on request. A fly fishing trip to the mountains of Patagonia is a life changing experience.

Travel Details & Pricing
Anglers on this trip can plan on flying to Buenos Aires on December 10th, arriving on December 11th. Plan on staying in Buenos Aires at a hotel on the night of the 11th (not included) to simplify things and rest-up before the trip begins. The group will fly to Bariloche on the morning of December 12th. The Rio Manso staff picks up the group from Bariloche and takes them to the lodge.
December 13 - 18, plan on fishing hard every day. The group will depart the lodge on December 19th.
