Chris Steinbeck
Fly Fishing Guide
Chris Steinbeck is a talented, dedicated guide who combines more than a decade of professional experience with a lifelong passion for fly fishing. His ability to read water, spot fish, and adapt his instruction helps anglers of every experience level enjoy a successful day on the river.
About Chris
Chris began fly fishing at age 10 and received his first tying vise when he was 12. Once he started tying, his interest quickly became a passion. He was constantly creating new patterns to test at Deckers and still remembers the exact spot where he caught his first trout on a fly he tied himself.
He developed much of his experience on his home waters of the South Platte, particularly Cheesman Canyon and Deckers. Annual trips with his best friend to New Mexico's San Juan River and Wyoming's Miracle Mile further shaped him as an angler.
At The Blue Quill
A former standout baseball player at Regis University, Chris learned the value of preparation, perseverance, and attention to detail as a college athlete. Those same qualities are evident in the way he approaches every guided trip.
Chris tailors each day to the goals and skill level of the individual angler. Beginners benefit from his patient instruction and clear explanations, while experienced anglers appreciate his technical knowledge, fish-spotting ability, and understanding of complex river conditions. His goal is to make every trip enjoyable, educational, and memorable.
Beyond the Shop
When Chris is not guiding, he is usually exploring new rivers and streams or continuing to refine his skills on familiar water. Each spring, he trades Colorado trout for a very different challenge and heads to Florida to chase tarpon.
