Report updated
The Fryingpan remains a cold-water fall option, but release changes are central to the day’s plan. A watershed update on October 15 reported a reduction in Ruedi releases that brought the lower river to roughly 74 cfs, following higher readings earlier in the week. Check the current gauge before crossing or choosing weight. Midges, Baetis and mysis shrimp remain important in the upper tailwater, with some lingering mayfly activity. Clear water rewards drag-free presentations and careful observation of feeding lanes. On overcast afternoons, small BWO dries and emergers may draw surface takes; otherwise, lightly weighted nymphs through soft seams are a more consistent approach. Fish from the bank where possible and respect other anglers in the most accessible reaches.
Fishing tips
Check the latest Ruedi release; do not rely on last week’s higher number. Start with a Zebra Midge or Mercury RS2 and add a mysis pattern in appropriate upper reaches. Keep a Blue Wing Olive dry ready for overcast hatches. Fish near-bank lanes before wading.
