Meet the Blue Quill Team
Fred Gray
Fly Fishing Guide
A Colorado native with a lifetime of local fishing experience, Fred Gray brings deep knowledge of the Denver-area waters he grew up fishing and now guides. His approach is equal parts experience, patience, and good humor, with a simple goal: help every guest learn something, catch fish, and enjoy a memorable day on the water.
About Fred
Fred is a native Coloradan who grew up fishing many of the same waters he now shares with Blue Quill guests. That long connection to the Front Range gives him the kind of local knowledge that comes only from years of observing changing flows, seasons, hatches, and trout behavior firsthand.
Over many years of guiding, Fred has built a reputation as one of the Denver area's familiar and experienced fly-fishing guides. He combines that experience with an easygoing personality that makes a day on the river feel relaxed, productive, and genuinely enjoyable.
At The Blue Quill
Fred brings a wealth of local knowledge to the Blue Quill guide team and uses it to shape each day around the angler, the water, and the conditions in front of him.
His aim is not simply to put guests on fish, but to make sure they leave with useful information, greater confidence, and memories that stay with them long after the trip is over.
Local Knowledge That Runs Deep
Growing up fishing Colorado gives Fred a perspective that cannot be learned from a map or a single season on the water. He understands how local fisheries change throughout the year and how small adjustments in approach can make a big difference.
That experience allows Fred to meet anglers at their own level, whether they are learning the fundamentals or looking for the little details that can improve an already solid game.
A Great Day Matters
Fred believes a successful guided trip is about more than a fish count. Learning matters. Good conversation matters. Laughing during the day matters. And when those things come together with a few trout, even better.
Experience Without the Intimidation
Fred's greatest strength may be the way he pairs experience with an approachable style. He knows the local water, understands the technical side of fly fishing, and is happy to share what he has learned without making the day feel overly complicated. Guests can expect practical instruction, plenty of encouragement, and a guide who genuinely wants them to have a good time.
