Meet the Blue Quill Team

Jason Grupp

Fly Fishing Guide

With more than 25 years of guiding experience, Jason Grupp brings a deep knowledge of fresh- and saltwater fly fishing, a teacher's eye for casting, and a genuine enthusiasm for helping anglers succeed. Today, he calls Colorado home and guides the South Platte River and neighboring waters.

About Jason

Jason has built his career around guiding, casting instruction, and sharing memorable fishing adventures with clients. His experience spans both fresh and salt water, along with hosted group trips to destinations including Mexico, Belize, California, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and Colorado.

An Orvis Endorsed Guide since 2003, Jason has also spent more than 15 years co-hosting Fish Talk Radio, where he promoted fly fishing and hosted travel. He has shared his knowledge at trade shows and fly-fishing clubs, bringing the same approachable energy to audiences that he brings to the river.

At The Blue Quill

Jason guides anglers on the South Platte River and nearby Colorado waters, paying close attention to insect life, trout behavior, and the details that make each fishery distinctive. His broad experience helps him adapt each day to the water, the conditions, and the goals of his guests.

Whether a guest is new to fly fishing or looking to sharpen an advanced skill, Jason keeps the experience educational, encouraging, and fun. He is proud to be part of the Blue Quill guide team and eager to share the quality fisheries he now considers home waters.

A Casting Instructor at Heart

Jason has specialized in casting instruction for more than 20 years. He teaches the technical fundamentals in clear, practical steps, helping anglers understand not only what to change but why the adjustment works.

His goal is to give guests the tools they need before the real test begins on the water—building confidence, improving efficiency, and making each new skill easier to carry into future fishing days.

Global Perspective, Local Focus

Years of fishing and hosting travel across the West, Mexico, and Belize give Jason a wide frame of reference. He brings those lessons home to Colorado, where every day begins with reading the water in front of him and meeting each angler at their own level.

Experience That Travels

From saltwater destinations to technical Western trout water, Jason's career has been shaped by a wide range of fisheries and anglers. That perspective makes him an adaptable guide and patient instructor—someone who can keep a day moving while making sure the lessons remain useful long after the trip is over.
