Intro to Fly Fishing

The Blue Quill Angler has teamed up with industry leaders Umpqua and Sage, to provide anglers a wide range of educational fly fishing classes to increase their knowledge and skill level. Whether you have never even held a fly-rod, or been fly fishing for years, the Blue Quill Angler has a fly fishing class for you in near the Denver area!

We all live and breathe fly fishing and we are passionate about getting you started on the right track to a lifetime of fly fishing enjoyment. All Blue Quill Angler classes feature rods and reels from Sage, and fully loaded Umpqua packs with leaders, tippet, accessories, and flies for you to use out on the river.

Our Director of our fly fishing classes, Kerry Caraghar, developed  our Introduction to Fly Fishing classes here at the shop based on his extensive background and experience.  With more than 30 years of experience as an Orvis-endorsed guide and instructor, Kerry's knowledge and passion has made our  Introduction to Fly Fishing Classes the gold standard in fly fishing instruction. 

 Every one of our Blue Quill Instructors has been personally trained and mentored by Kerry and are dedicated to continuing the success of our Introduction to Fly Fishing classes.  Unfortunately Kerry is currently taking a leave of absence to deal with his health. KERRY CARAGHAR

Class Director

Kerry was born in Colorado where his family has lived since the mid 1800‘s. His love affair with fly fishing began at an early age when he learned to fish on the beaver ponds of Buffalo Creek, CO, near his grandfather’s hotel. Summers spent fishing and storytelling on the hotel porch remain as fond childhood memories.

Classes Offered

Introduction to Fly Fishing

    $275 Per Person

This class is open to anyone who is wanting to learn how to fly fish. This is a 2 session course that we limit to a maximum of 6 anglers per class. Classes run weekly from mid-April through mid-October. Each week, the first session takes place on a Thursday evening, from 6-9PM at our shop in Evergreen. The second session happens on the following Sunday, where you spend the day on the river with your instructor. Classes' are limited to 6 people with 2 instructors.

Women's Intro to Fly Fishing

$300 Per Person - 2024 Dates Available Now!

This is a beginners, women’s only introduction to fly fishing class. This course is also a 2 session class; with the first session on a Wednesday evening at our shop in Evergreen, and the second session on the river the following  Sunday (may vary) with your instructor. Learn everything you need to catch a trout with a fly!

Kids Fly Fishing Class

    $175 Per Person - 2024 Dates Available Now!

Our kid’s fly fishing classes, sponsored by Umpqua, are open to any kid from 8-13 years old. In this 1 day class, kids acquire new skills and learn many fascinating facts about trout, their environment, and feeding habits; but most importantly how to catch them on a fly rod! After learning a little about fly fishing, the kids will get to test their new skills at the Buchanon Ponds across from our shop.

Intro to Fly Tying Class

    $125 Per Person

The purpose of this class is to introduce the beginner to the basic fly tying techniques.  This is a two hour classe that will be hosted at our shop in Evergreen. Dates to be announced soon.

We can also arrange private one-on-one sessions for more advanced patterns or special requests.
