Offset tungsten beads are shaped to change the center of gravity of the fly. These beads have become extremely popular with fly tyers as the can take any hook and make it ride hook point up. Different drilling techniques will ensure that the flies descend to the bottom of the river faster, which is especially useful when fishing in deep pools or fast and powerful rivers.

Offset Tungsten Beads

Offset tungsten beads definitely have their place on the bench. They are a little heavier by size. I use them mostly on small baetis and other small flies. It is a little tricky to get a wing case of nail polish on them though.

These beads are a great addition to my fly tying arsenal. The ability to turn any hook into a jig hook and make a fly less likely to snag on the bottom opens up many additional possibilities. If you haven't tried these beads yet, you are missing out.
