Join The Blue Quill Angler for a hosted fly fishing trip to the San Juan River in New Mexico, widely regarded as one of the best tailwater trout fisheries in the West. Flowing below Navajo Dam, the San Juan is famous for its incredible trout population—often estimated at 10,000–12,000 fish per mile—and its consistent midge and mayfly hatches that create outstanding nymphing and technical dry fly fishing opportunities.
Each day we’ll fish with experienced local guides, exploring the river by drift boat or wade fishing through the famous Quality Waters section, where anglers regularly encounter large, healthy rainbow and brown trout in crystal-clear water.
Our group will stay at Soaring Eagle Lodge, one of the premier fly fishing lodges on the San Juan. Located directly along the river at the productive Crow’s Foot stretch, the lodge offers anglers the rare luxury of true riverside lodging with easy access to the water just steps from your cabin.
Each angler-friendly cabin is designed with fly fishermen in mind and features comfortable beds, full amenities, rod and wader racks, and relaxing patio seating with views of the river. After a full day of fishing, it’s the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the peaceful setting along the San Juan.
Another highlight of the experience is the exceptional dining at the lodge. With two professional chefs on staff, Soaring Eagle Lodge is known for its outstanding breakfasts and dinners, providing guests with memorable meals that perfectly cap off a great day on the water.

Travel Details and Pricing
Anglers on this trip can plan on arriving at the Soaring Eagle Lodge on July 12th, 2026. Dinner will be provided this night, so it's recommended to arrive around 5PM.
The group will leave the lodge on the morning of July 15th, 2026.
