
Our hugely popular Saturday Seminars return this off-season, offering a free, in-store opportunity to learn from some of the best anglers and fly tyers in the industry. These weekly sessions are a fantastic way to sharpen your skills, pick up new techniques, meet fellow anglers, and get inspired for the seasons ahead.
Each seminar is held at The Blue Quill Angler fly shop in Evergreen, Colorado, and is open to anglers of all experience levels—from complete beginners to seasoned veterans. Presentations begin at 10:00 AM every Saturday and feature accomplished guides, fly designers, and educators sharing their knowledge in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

Greg Garcia - Tying Soft Hackles from Large to Small
We are lucky to have Greg Garcia back at the shop on Saturday! Greg will be focusing on tying soft hackles, from large to small. Soft hackle flies are incredibly effective on the water and they're a ton of fun to tie! Learn some of Greg's favorite soft hackle patterns and the important tips to get them right on the vise.
Greg Garcia is a legendary Colorado fly tyer whose patterns are staples in fly boxes across the country. Widely regarded as a master at the vise, Greg is the creator of iconic patterns like the Mini Hot, Rojo Midge, Mini Hot Mayfly, Mother's Day Caddis and the Darth Baetis among many other. Greg's patterns are known for being both innovative and incredibly effective on demanding trout waters. A Winston Pro Team member and passionate advocate for fly fishing, Greg brings decades of experience, creativity, and insight to everything he does—making his Saturday Seminar a chance to learn directly from one of the most influential fly tyers in the sport.

Chris Steinbeck - 2026 Season on the South Platte River
Chris Steinbeck will be in the shop on March 28th discussing tactics and tips for success on the South Platte River. Chris' presentation is geared to what we'll be seeing on the South Platte this season in terms of conditions and how we are preparing (impacts of low snowpack). Focused mainly on the Deckers, Cheesman, and Dream Stream sections of the South Platte, this presentation is great for anglers of all experience levels! Don't miss your chance to hear the low down from one of our full time guides.
Chris is going into his 17th season guiding for the Blue Quill Angler. Growing up in Littleton, Chris has been passionate about fishing since he was a kid, which he has carried into his guide career. Chris cut his teeth fishing all over the South Platte River.

Ron Belak - Strategies for Fishing the Backcountry: High Lakes and Small Streams
The BQA is lucky to have Ron Belak in the shop on April 4th! This is the perfect chance to learn how to be more effective fishing in the high country! High alititude lakes and streams are Ron's specialty!
Ron Belak has been fishing the Colorado backcountry for 47 years. He is a regular contributor to Colorado Outdoors magazine, the official publication of Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and is the author of two books on backcountry fly fishing: Fly Fishing Colorado's Backcountry and The Fishing Guide to 800 High Lakes in Colorado. As a regular presenter at the Fly Fishing Show in Denver and chapter meetings of Trout Unlimited, Ron shares his knowledge on strategies, techniques and patterns for high-mountain lakes and small streams. He also graciously shares information on specific high-elevation waters, which is invaluable when low-elevation rivers and streams become dangerously warm due to low snowpack, drought and higher temperatures as is anticipated in the upcoming season.

Landon Mayer
Landon is owner an operator of Landon Mayer Fly Fishing. His angling success is fueled by an addiction to pursuing large trout with small flies and lightweight fly-fishing equipment. Mayer enthusiastically teaches and demonstrates his techniques and on-river knowledge to fellow anglers and has developed innovative strategies for sighting, hooking, and landing selective trout. He shares these tips and secrets in his books The Hunt for Giant Trout: 25 Top Locations in the US to Catch a Trophy (new for 2019), Trout Tips: A Guide’s Secrets, Tactics and Techniques, Colorado’s Best Fly Fishing, Sight Fishing for Trout, and How to Catch the Biggest Trout of Your Life, in addition to his new film with Headwater Media: Mastering the Short Game.
