From Kansas bass ponds to Colorado mountain streams, Austin Daniels has built his life around fishing. His curiosity, broad experience, and genuine enthusiasm for helping others make him a natural fit both on the water and at The Blue Quill Angler.
About Austin
Originally from Kansas, Austin grew up fishing stillwater for largemouth bass. With a lake just steps from his childhood home, he spent much of his early life on the water and developed a strong connection to fishing from a young age.
As a teenager, a family trip to Colorado introduced him to fly fishing. He was hooked immediately, returning each summer to explore small creeks and alpine lakes throughout the state.
At 20, Austin joined the Air Force and was stationed in Arizona. Even there, fishing remained a priority, and he sought out remote, lesser-known streams in the eastern part of the state whenever he could.
At The Blue Quill
After completing his service, Austin chose to make Colorado home and began building a career in the outdoor industry. Today he splits his time between guiding and serving as a buyer for The Blue Quill Angler.
That combination gives him a unique perspective: he understands equipment from the shop side, but also sees how it performs in the real world with anglers of different experience levels, techniques, and goals.
From Warmwater to Trout — and Beyond
Austin's fishing background is broader than many trout-focused anglers. He started with largemouth bass, later immersed himself in trout fishing across Colorado and Arizona, and continues to pursue a wide range of species whenever the opportunity arises.
That variety shows in the way he approaches fishing: stay curious, adapt to the water in front of you, and never stop learning.
Fishing With Austin
Austin brings an easygoing, enthusiastic approach to a day on the water. He enjoys helping newer anglers understand the fundamentals while also working with experienced anglers who want to refine technique, presentation, and decision-making.
His goal is not simply to put fish in the net, but to help guests understand why a particular approach is working so they leave the river with knowledge they can use on their own.
