Zac Johnson
Fly Fishing Guide
Background
Colorado grown, Zac Johnson grew up in Montrose where he was first introduced to fly fishing on Cedar Creek. Zac was 11 years old when he experienced his first fish on the fly, โI will never forget the life changing event of throwing a size 16 Royal Wulff to an overly eager rainbow trout!โ
Throughout Zacโs teen years, he spent his school breaks and weekends fishing with his Father and Grandfather on the Dolores, Uncompahgre, Cimarron, and Gunnison rivers as well as the ponds at Chipeta and Paco-chu-puk. At age 16, Zac moved to Arizona, where for the time being, learned to catch bass on the fly around the local golf courses.
Naturally, after graduating from a private high school Zacโs obsession for fly fishing yanked him back to this beautiful state of Colorado. Upon his re-arrival, Zac became infatuated with the South Platte river. In particular, Cheesman Canyon and Deckerโs stretch, became Zacโs revolving door. Though the South Platte is where Zac calls home, he has experience on the Colorado, Williams Fork and Blue Rivers. If Zac is not guiding or cheese mongering, he is fishing a body of water on the South Platte via river-reservoir or dissecting a new river system.
