Our hugely popular Saturday Seminars return this off-season, offering a free, in-store opportunity to learn from some of the best anglers and fly tyers in the industry. These weekly sessions are a fantastic way to sharpen your skills, pick up new techniques, meet fellow anglers, and get inspired for the seasons ahead.

Each seminar is held at The Blue Quill Angler fly shop in Evergreen, Colorado, and is open to anglers of all experience levels—from complete beginners to seasoned veterans. Presentations begin at 10:00 AM every Saturday and feature accomplished guides, fly designers, and educators sharing their knowledge in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

January Lineup

Saturday, January 3rd @ 10AM 

Steve Maldonado & Jeff Rowley

Steve Maldonado, a Colorado native and nationally recognized fly designer with multiple patterns produced by Umpqua Feather Merchants, will be tying streamers with spun and packed deer hair heads. Known for his expertise in baitfish and streamer design, Steve brings decades of fishing and tying experience to the presentation and will focus on building effective, fish-moving patterns

Jeff Rowley will be tying a deer hair mouse pattern, showcasing the stacking, spinning, and shaping techniques that make his work stand out. A lifelong angler and self-taught tyer, Jeff spends much of his time fishing for trout in Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas, and is widely respected for his creative and precise use of deer hair.

Saturday, January 10th @ 10AM 

Juan Ramirez

Juan Ramirez grew up fishing the small streams and creeks of Northern New Mexico’s Sangre de Cristo Mountains and has been fly fishing since 1997. He has guided on the Cimarron River, the Conejos River, and extensively throughout the South Platte and Arkansas River watersheds of north-central Colorado (currently through Anglers Covey in CO Springs). A passionate and highly accomplished fly tyer with many years of commercial tying experience, Juan spends nearly all of his time behind the vise, creating deadly, fish-proven patterns that consistently produce on local waters like the South Platte, Arkansas, and Colorado Rivers. If you fish these rivers, you’ve likely seen — or should be fishing — Juan’s flies.

Pat Dorsey

Pat Dorsey is a co-owner of The Blue Quill Angler and widely regarded as one of the most accomplished fly fishing guides and fly tyers in the country. A true authority on technical trout fishing, Pat’s patterns, techniques, and approach have influenced anglers nationwide, and his flies are staples on demanding waters throughout Colorado and beyond. With decades of experience on the river and behind the vise, Pat brings unmatched knowledge, clarity, and insight to every presentation. His Saturday Seminar on January 17th is a rare chance to learn directly from one of the very best in the game.

Cat Toy is a guide with The Blue Quill Angler and a highly sought-after fly tyer who is regularly invited to present and tie at events across the country. With a deep passion for teaching and guiding, she excels at breaking down the details that matter most, helping anglers of all levels better understand the art and execution of fly fishing.

Greg Garcia

Greg Garcia is a legendary Colorado fly tyer whose patterns are staples in fly boxes across the country. Widely regarded as a master at the vise, Greg is the creator of iconic patterns like the Mini Hot and Darth Baetis among many others, and is known for flies that are both innovative and incredibly effective on demanding trout waters. A Winston Pro Team member and passionate advocate for fly fishing, Greg brings decades of experience, creativity, and insight to everything he does—making his Saturday Seminar a rare chance to learn directly from one of the most influential fly tyers in the sport.

Antonio Rodrigues

Antonio Rodrigues is a highly decorated competitive fly fisherman from Portugal and a multi-time Portuguese National Champion, having represented his country on the national team since 2002. In addition to his competitive success, Antonio is an exceptional fly tyer whose patterns are proven fish-catchers wherever they’re fished. Flies like Antonio’s Adult BWO, Adult PMD, and his Quill Midge are true standouts—effective, versatile, and trusted on waters across the country. A longtime guide, coach, and founder of the Portuguese Fly Fishing Association, Antonio also owns Front Range Anglers in Boulder, bringing world-class experience and skill to everything he does.

Tim Jacobs

Tim Jacobs is an angler, fly tyer, writer, photographer, and casting instructor based in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley, and is widely regarded as one of the most talented deer hair fly tyers in the country. A former Federation of Fly Fishers certified casting instructor, Tim has guided in both the Steamboat Springs area and the Roaring Fork Valley, taught Sage Casting Clinics, and continues to instruct at the Michigan Youth Trout Camp. He is the author of Tying and Fishing Deer Hair Flies and Tactics for Bass and Other Warmwater Species, and regularly appears at fly shops and shows as a demonstration tyer for the Regal Vise and Nature’s Spirit Pro Staffs. When it comes to working with deer hair, Tim’s skill and teaching ability are truly exceptional.
