About 11 Mile Canyon

Located just outside Lake George, Eleven Mile Canyon is one of Colorado’s most scenic and productive stretches of the South Platte River.

Flowing below Eleven Mile Reservoir, this famous tailwater offers year-round fly fishing opportunities surrounded by granite canyon walls, towering pines, and classic Colorado scenery. Eleven Mile Canyon is known for its healthy populations of wild rainbow and brown trout, along with consistent insect activity that keeps fish feeding in every season. Midges dominate during the winter months, while blue-winged olives, caddis, PMDs, and tricos provide excellent dry fly fishing from spring through fall. The trout here are highly educated, making stealth, precise presentations, and proper fly selection essential for success. What makes Eleven Mile special is the variety of water available to anglers. Long riffles, deep pools, pocket water, and smooth runs create opportunities for both beginners and experienced fly fishers.

The upper sections near the dam are designated Gold Medal waters and regularly produce impressive trout. Whether you’re chasing rising trout on a summer evening or nymphing through a winter midge hatch, Eleven Mile Canyon delivers an unforgettable South Platte fly fishing experience.
